Change How You Prophesy: How to Release Untapped Blessings
Until we recognize that God blessed mankind before He gave assignments to mankind, we will never fully recognize the significance of being blessed or the importance of declaring the blessing over someone.
No one can enter his or her heavenly assignment correctly without the blessing of God spoken over them. When Father God blessed Adam and Eve, they heard it and received it. Then He spoke their purpose and assignment to tend to the Garden of Eden. The blessing centered on who they were to Father God. He spoke about His relationship with them and His pleasure in them. The assignment was based on the blessing Father God spoke over them. The blessing centered their relationship and identity in honor so He could walk and talk with them.
God openly confessed His pleasure in His Son, Jesus. We can look at the baptism of Jesus and see more clearly Father God’s heart’s desire to bless us as the foundation of His relationship with mankind.
And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17 NKJV).
Father God blessed the first Adam and the last Adam—Jesus Christ—before they were given assignments. Father God utilized the same pattern for both “Adams” and all mankind. Blessings must be received before we start our assignments. They are not earned but rather received and desperately needed to function as a child of God. These blessings are more difficult to receive from a “sinner, saved by grace” identity and mindset. They are a natural part for an heir who has an inheritance, whose identity and mind-set exist scripturally; “[seated] together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6 KJV).
We must think differently about ourselves to live differently. We were designed by Father God to make a difference in our lives. Living in the full revelation of His honor is a required foundation to agree with His conversations about our assigned purpose.
While writing this book on hearing God’s voice and prophecy, I saw for the first time in Genesis 1:28 how God blessed Adam and Eve before He spoke prophetically into their purpose and their assignments. As I look back over decades of prophetic ministry, I notice the pattern of how His Spirit would release a blessing in words or pictures before moving into a person’s destiny or gifts that accompany their destiny.
Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing (1 Thessalonians 5:11 NKJV).
But command Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him… (Deuteronomy 3:28).
The Spirit of Truth in the Prophetic
One of the reasons we must be born again is to restore the Spirit of truth that dwells in Father God that He created in Adam and Eve. Adam had operated in the Spirit of truth that gave him the revelation to name all the animals that Father God created. The Spirit of truth gave Adam the ability to collaborate and interface with Father God for his assignments on earth. We need the Spirit of truth active in our spirit to guide us in our assignments on earth. When we prophesy, the Spirit of truth is activated in our spirit to speak spiritual truths.
…your life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3 NKJV).
Adam and Eve responded to the lie of the serpent, opening their spirit and mind to the deceiver and the spirit of deception. The Spirit of truth departed, and they stepped into hiding from Him. As we are born of the Spirit, we step out of our hiding to be hidden with Christ in God.
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit” (John 3:5-8 NKJV).
Born of the water speaks of the baptism of John the Baptist, repentance from sin, and life dedication to God. That will give any believer eternal life. The day of Pentecost marked a different event—being born of the Spirit. The disciples of Jesus were empowered by the Holy Spirit, with the sound of wind, the tongues of fire, and speaking in tongues. The Holy Spirit births our spirit so we can be carried by the wind of His Spirit.
Those born of the Spirit stand, walk, and run in the winds of the Spirit, wherever and whenever the Spirit wishes. They know the sound of the winds of the Spirit around the words spoken. The path of those who are born of the Spirit is not predictable, but it is precious. Where they start and where they go is a mystery filled with the beauty of the Lord and the power of His might.
A Supernatural Creation
Father God is a supernatural being. He created us in His image and likeness; we are supernatural beings, but we are not Him, just like Him. Father God created us as supernatural beings so that He could move through us and we could move through Him in super-natural dimensions of His glory and power. The Scripture speaks that we abide in Christ and Christ abides in us.
We cannot walk with Father God in a relationship of revelation without the Spirit of truth. This supernatural ability does not lie within the vessel because of man’s rebellion, but we were designed and created for it. The ability now lies within the super-natural Holy Spirit who fills us. We have been designed by Father God to receive the Holy Spirit and move supernaturally, and have Him move supernaturally through us. Father God designed us for supernatural demonstrations of His supernatural abilities to reveal Him to the world.
Consider the fact that the gift of prophecy is within the super-natural Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is within us and operates supernaturally through us. The Spirit of truth is woven into the Holy Spirit. There are different names for the same Holy Spirit, but each highlights a specific virtue within the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of truth moves in realms of revelation that reveals and hon-ors our supernatural Father God.
Until we understand that Father God made our lives a super-natural gift to others, we will not walk in the supernatural gifts of the Spirit at the highest level of impact. We are not Jesus, but Jesus has declared that we are the light of the world. We know that He is the light of the world, but do we really understand that as He is, so also are we in this world? Until we understand the implications of these truths, we will not interface between Father God and the world correctly or effectively.
“A sinner saved by grace” is the door we went through to obtain sonship (Ephesians 2:8-9). It is not our identity before Father God. We are His children, His sons and daughters. When we prophesy to people who are still carrying the orphan spirit, we are reopening communication between them and Father God. We are inviting them into sonship with Him. They are under the deception of the enemy, who tells them that God does not love them, care about them, and would never communicate with them on a personal level. The children of God are called to speak His truth and love that dismantles the lies of the father of lies. Lies and truth can only be created through communication. The enemy wraps a lie with the spirit of deception and then presents it as truth.
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come (John 16:13 NKJV).
The Spirit of truth is the Holy Spirit. Let’s say it another way to recognize the connection between these names. The gifts of the Spirit of truth are the power gifts designed by Father God to guide people into truth. All the gifts of the Spirit are designed to point people toward the way, the truth, and the life, Jesus Christ. The gift of prophecy is the voice of truth through us by the Holy Spirit to guide others toward Jesus.
The accuracy of the prophetic is within the Spirit of truth. We rely on Him for the truth and accuracy. We are not the ones who produce the accuracy in prophetic words. We flow in the power of the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit of truth guides us in what we should say and how we say it. How does a guide work on a journey or in a museum? The guide, the Holy Spirit, shows us things that we observe while giving us revelation through the Spirit of truth on what they mean and guiding us in what we say.
It is very organic, not mechanical in nature. Sometimes we will repeat what we heard spoken, but most often it is walking with the guide and speaking or even repeating what He says as He reveals it to us. A guide directs our path and thoughts. Very seldom do we repeat an entire word after listening to its entirety unless it is a short phrase or several pointed sentences. Prophetic phrases focus my starting point to step into the wind of the Holy Spirit, developing the message of the original phrase. After a word, a word phrase, or a sentence comes to my mind, it is followed by other thoughts or pictures I see after I start speaking what I heard.
When we yield to or invite the Holy Spirit to prophesy through us, we are inviting the Spirit of truth to fill our words. The Spirit of truth, who is one with the Holy Spirit, is guiding us as we prophesy. The Spirit of truth is guiding us to speak truth through us. He is giving us words and pictures to help guide others forward and ultimately toward Jesus.
The enemy’s number-one assignment is to cut off the blessing and communication between Father God and those He created in His likeness and image. As we speak with His voice, we are introducing people to communication with Father God. Father God walked in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. We were designed by Father God to walk on His earth as His sons and daughters, talking with Him.
Activation: Ask the Holy Spirit where He would like to meet you today to talk with you? In your house? Which room? What chair? Are you sitting in a chair, lying on the floor, or on the bed? What do you see around you or in front of you? What does it mean to you? What is He speaking to you?
Are you meeting Him outside your house? By a tree? Walking on a sidewalk? Looking up into the sky? What is in front of you? What is around you, and what does it mean to you? What is He speaking to you?
Are you meeting with Him as you drive your car? Invite Him into this ride with you. Ask Him if there is anything He would like to say to you. Stay silent for several minutes.
It would be good to record whatever you speak or hear prophetically during this time. As we do this activation, we become aware of more opportunities to walk with Him on earth, in “now moments.” We are increasing our awareness of His presence and His continuing desire to talk with us, no matter where we are.
