Ex-Witch Exposes Demons, Ghosts, Familiar Spirits, and Witchcraft
Powerless people seek witchcraft. Prideful people don’t want to submit to God. And I was just that.
Powerless and prideful. Although clearly under enormous self-induced stress, there was part of me that felt encouraged after getting my palm read. It was the first time someone could acknowledge this part of me happily and then actually give me direction for it. I had zero direction at that point in my life. No Christian had told me what I was facing or had given me any type of solution for seeing spirits all the time. Maybe they didn’t know how to handle it, to be honest.
When I had shared my “ghostly” encounters with a pastor in high school, he just looked at me wide-eyed and seemingly afraid. I believe he and his wife tried their very best with the knowledge they had to help me. And truthfully, I’m not sure I would have been ready to receive help then anyway.
So, I walked through my teen years regularly seeing spirits that I thought were “ghosts” and occasionally what I thought were demons, as they presented themselves to be “darker.” Now, in case you don’t already know, there are no such things as ghosts! There are only angels who serve the Lord and demons who work for satan. Demons can shapeshift depending on function and authority in the spirit.
Two demons I encountered (which I discuss in my book, The Witch and the Lamb) changed their appearance multiple times to me. However, they were the same spirit trying to accomplish the same thing. Some can even mimic dead loved ones. That’s right; if you’re seeing your grandpa who passed away walking around your house, it is a demon, and you need to shut all open doors that are allowing the demonic in your life. That is a familiar spirit, meaning it is a spirit that has been in your generational line. Kick it out of your house by commanding it to get out in Jesus’s name and then anoint your entire home.
You see things like this on television and social media, often with psychic mediums or shamans who are tapping into the spirit realm. The reality? Your past loved one is either in Heaven or hell. They are not still roaming the earth or in a place of limbo or purgatory. Anything claiming to be a deceased loved one is a demon, and I know this from personal experience and also from the Bible.
Again, these are known as familiar spirits or what I call familial (family) spirits. They are generational demons. Remember, the devil comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. These spirits want to weasel their way into your life and destroy it in any way possible. There is always going to be some sort of lack in your life when you are pursuing witchcraft in any form. Deception is the key these demons use to unlock the doors of your life so they can invade your space and create chaos.
I currently have a friend whom I believe to be cursed. Curses can come upon us when we are living in sin or have been directly cursed by a person, and of course, generational curses are very real. This friend has regularly sought out mediums and other energy healers to contact people in her life who have died. I have warned her against this, but at the end of the day, it’s between her and God.
She always seems to be comforted for a short time, and then the issues arise. She has had so many setbacks with finances, accidents, addictions, relationship problems, health, family, children, and the list goes on. She is not ready to close the doors she has opened to the spirit realm. In her case, demons have legal rights to her life. I did this for a long time as well, until the Lord opened my eyes to it completely.
Sometimes, you just don’t want to give up what you know is not right. And that is your free will. And in other cases, you actually don’t know what is wrong because you don’t know God and don’t know His Word. When it comes to the topic of spirits, we hear various words: ghosts, spirit guides, gods, goddesses, departed loved ones, marine spirits, orbs, etc. They are all demons.
As Christians, we are given the gift of discernment. If you are entertaining spirits, you are deceived. Ask God to reveal the demonic in your life, and He will. Ignorance is not bliss; ignorance is bondage. I encourage you to ask God to reveal the demonic agenda in your life, and He will. When you know where the pest is and how it got in, you can poison it with the Word of God and evict it by seeking deliverance and living a righteous life.
I understand the allure of the supernatural. God is supernatural, which is why we are so drawn to it. However, testing every spirit is vital. You don’t know what you don’t know, so if you have meddled with the occult, don’t be afraid or self-condemning—seek the Holy Spirit. God is good. He has delivered His people from demons since the beginning of time, and His grace is unfathomable.
I was submerged in this lifestyle for a long time before it turned on me, and I began to recognize its evil works in my life. Still, on occasion, I make mistakes when I choose to ignore or brush off my discernment. For example, receiving a gift and bringing it into my home when I shouldn’t have, or watching a show with an undertone that glorifies sin. It’s not religious, its discernment. And what may be safe for some may not be for others.
Personal conviction is biblical; however, the Bible is clear about all things witchcraft. Each time I have personally watched a show in my home that glorifies witchcraft in any way (whether outright glorification or subtle), demonic attacks happen. I am very sensitive spiritually and am hyper-aware of this, thanks to the Holy Spirit. Many people experience demonic attacks and don’t even know what that is, or if they do, they don’t know why it’s happening or what to do about it. Don’t let the enemy into your home!
Growing up, I was always hypersensitive and aware of things that others were not, or if they were, just not as intensely as I was. I often found myself in homes that were “haunted.” I could see, hear, feel, know, and even smell things in the spirit realm. I figured it was just a “sixth sense” because I had seen the movie.
I’m going to do my best to explain something here that may be over your head, or you may easily understand exactly what I’m saying. I was considered an “indigo child.” The term indigo children was coined in the 1970s when a parapsychologist and psychic claimed she could see auras around children.
Without going into too much depth on this term and its background, in short, certain children who had a “heightened consciousness” in addition to being highly creative were known as indigo children. Basically, psychic kids. This was me. When I was in witchcraft and the New Age, this was a very big deal and felt like a badge of honor; however, what it actually translates to spiritually is occult gifting, which is actually demonization.
The “giftings” I had as a child were not from God. They were a result of familial and generational spirits and curses passed down to me through my bloodline. Children who are introduced to and participate in witchcraft at a young age often have generational witchcraft in their generational line, whether they know it or not. This was also my experience, as I was introduced to it at the age of seven.
So while the world viewed this as a gift, it was actually demonic oppression because I was not under God’s covering. Due to not being raised in a Holy Spirit-filled home, but instead one that was full of sin, I was very oppressed in many ways early on. When I entered middle school, the torment increased. During my junior year of high school, I opened the door to tarot and oracle card readings. Angel cards, by the way, are all about fallen angels—which are demons!
I encourage you to look into Doreen Virtue’s testimony on this. She was one of the most famous occultists in the world of witchcraft and is now a born-again Christian! A majority of the really popular oracle cards were designed by her before she was saved. She speaks directly on this, refusing product royalties and downsizing her life significantly since the publishing company refused to stop producing her cards and books. She now calls her once “angel cards,” demon cards.
As a teen, my draw to witchcraft amplified. I started picking up various witchcraft books and spent much of my spare time sitting in front of the witchcraft or spirituality section in libraries and bookstores for hours on end. I attended parties and events with large crowds of people asking about my paranormal encounters.
Multiple times I had rows of peers sitting down and listening, enthralled by the scary stories I would share. My body would shake as I described my first face-to-face demonic encounter in middle school. I was clearly traumatized and oppressed by a spirit of fear, but people craved the stories. Part of me did not want to share this encounter in this book because I do not want to glorify it in any way. However, the Holy Spirit has encouraged me to share details of my experiences in hopes of exposing the evil that can erupt through the choices we make as well as the things we do because we lack spiritual knowledge.
When participating in “spiritual” things out of ignorance, our spiritual defenses come down (and that’s if we even have any to begin with). Picture this, a hedge of protection (an invisible forcefield) surrounds us. Sin creates holes within that hedge, and demons come in. What could start as just the point of a needle entering our hedge of protection could eventually expand into a doorway. If we are not spiritually discerning or aware, we can be taken advantage of and put ourselves in vulnerable situations where we are susceptible to demonic attack. I did this again and again and again.
The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6 to put on the “full armor of God.” That’s not just one or two pieces, it’s a full spiritual get-up. This is a well-known Scripture to most Christians, and an even more powerful one if your eyes have been opened to spiritual things. When I first heard this Scripture, it didn’t mean anything to me. It seemed like poetry, or another Bible verse used to make people who believed in this stuff feel better about things. Now that I have been delivered from more than a thousand devils, I know firsthand the importance and weight of this Scripture. It reads:
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, the breastplate of righteousness in place, and your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people (Ephesians 6:10-18 NIV).
The following are different aspects of the armor that protect your spirit:
Salvation: Salvation is the helmet that guards your mind. Being saved and believing in Jesus, making Him Lord of your life. If He truly is your God, no demon can take His place in your mind. You have to make the honest choice to follow Him and keep following Him and reading His Word to renew and transform your mind.
Righteousness: Righteousness is the breastplate that guards your heart. Getting right with God and operating from a pure heart. If you are doing something you feel might not be right, it probably isn’t. The deeper your relationship with God, the easier it is to become aware of what keeps you from being right with the Lord. Righteousness can seem hard at first, but peace always blossoms as a result. Honor your own convictions, even if they are different from someone else’s.
Truth: Truth is the belt around your waist. You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Not an experience of the truth, but knowing it fully and believing it. The more guarded you are in truth, the less likely you are to sin. Guard yourself from all sexual impurity!
Peace: The shoes that carry you readies you for the gospel of peace. The gospel of peace is what we stand on as believers. We walk in peace, we carry the Gospel, and we share the love of God. We are called to tale the Gospel to all peoples of the earth, and with that, peace will be reaped and sown!
Faith: Faith is the shield that protects you. Faith is a shield. When you are shielded, you are covered and protected. Radical faith opens the door for healing and deliverance. Fear cannot come against true faith. The lies and attacks (or flaming arrows) of the enemy dissipate against your faith in God. Faith shuts down demonic strategy every time.
The Word of God: The Word of God is the sword that defends you. God’s Word is your defense. When things are problematic, speak His Word. When you get that medical report or diagnosis, when you experience a trauma, a heartbreak, or whatever, you need to come against that evil with the Word of God. If you are under demonic attack, the Word of God is your sword. It will slay demons. I have seen Scripture literally freeze, taze, and harm demons in the spirit. It puts them in a chokehold!
Prayer: Prayer brings life and change! We are called to pray in the Spirit (speak in tongues) and to pray regularly for one another (the saints or other believers). The tongue brings life or death. When we speak life out loud through the power of prayer, the atmosphere shifts! And when we speak in tongues, we are edifying ourselves and speaking a language to the Lord that the enemy cannot understand.
The full armor of God is not just a Scripture to encourage, it is a battle plan! If you go out into the battlefield (the world) without one of the elements that make up your armor, or without any of them, you practically have a target on your back! At one point, I felt like I kept getting attacked. I had just moved out of state with my family and hadn’t built a community yet. I was in an abusive marriage (which is definitely an open door for the enemy by the way!), and I knew my armor wasn’t rightly worn. I wasn’t living in sin, but I had a feeling something was off, beyond my relationship issues.
I asked the Lord to show me my armor. He gave me a vision. It looked like everything was intact from the front. Then He showed me the back of me. There was a huge gap behind my right shoulder—a massive hole in my armor. My back wasn’t covered. Had I been on an actual battlefield, with arrows, gunfire, or swords coming at me, I would have been stabbed in the back.
Now this vision is much more prophetic than I recognized at the time I received it.
I brought this vision to my mentor, Sue, and said, “Doesn’t the breastplate go all the way around? Shouldn’t it cover my back, too? I’m confused because I am walking in righteousness, so why would there be a hole in the back of my armor?” She then explained Roman army formations to me and emphasized the importance of building community, “The enemy always attacks the vulnerable,” she said.
If someone is isolated, that person is vulnerable. Period. When it comes to Roman army formations, they operated in groups, where the person behind covered the person in front’s back with a shield. The shields were made of leather and soaked in water so that when actual flaming arrows came firing down, they would be put out instantly. One person can only cover or defend themselves so much; so in war, someone is there to cover your back. Community matters! Church matters!
