When Satan Attacks Your Mind: 6 Biblical Ways to Restore Your Peace
One of the first descriptions Jesus made of Himself was that of offering mental and emotional peace.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (Luke 4:18 KJV).
Jesus emphasized that one of the most powerful anointings that rested upon Him was to bring healing to those whose hearts are broken and free those who are oppressed. These point to all forms of mental and emotional anguish. Many of the Scriptures about peace are truly meant for our mental state. When our mind and emotions are in turmoil, we don’t have peace.
Experiencing mental peace comes by taking control of what we choose to dwell on each day. If you rehearse your pain and hurt repeatedly in your mind, then your mental state will suffer. This is what it means to be carnally minded—allowing the fleshly nature to dominate what we think about, which only leads to further emotional turmoil. It’s like a black hole that has no end, it only grows worse.
The Bible teaches us that to have emotional and mental peace, we must redirect our mind to spiritual things, not on what is meant to hurt us.
So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace (Romans 8:6 NLT).
If you need mental or emotional peace, begin to see Jesus as the Healer of your soul. He comes to heal all forms of mental oppression. Every time some form of emotional hurt and anxiousness comes at you, stop and firmly redirect your mind to what is spiritual as this verse commands.
Also, speak out loud and tell your mind to be at peace in Jesus’ name! If you have allowed your thoughts to go on undisciplined in the past, this may require a concentrated effort for a time, as your mind is used to reverting to carnal and fleshly thoughts where peace has been stolen. Even if you need to redirect your mind multiple times a day, do it! Declare aloud, “Jesus has healed me of all mental oppression! I will not dwell on the pain and trauma, but upon the Lord my Healer and my Peace!”
Fill your mind with God’s Word so there is less space in your thoughts for the fleshly things that bring about mental oppression. Mental peace is available, but we must direct our mind toward what is spiritual!
The Promise of Peace Regarding Your Health
Probably one of the most prominent areas where people seek peace is regarding their health. Sickness and disease are often the greatest reasons people don’t have peace. Either they are in pain and discomfort from an ailing condition, or they are fearful of some medical diagnosis. This may apply to themselves or a loved one. So how can we have peace regarding our health when situations arise?
I will give a few simple principles here that will help you walk in peace when there are health issues.
1. Follow the steps we have discussed in Philippians 4:6-8. Don’t be afraid to repeat those steps over and over as I mentioned earlier. I have seen this repetition work in my life many times to restore my peace.
2. Build yourself up in God’s promises about health and healing throughout the Bible. This is best done at times when there isn’t a health matter or battle present, but nonetheless, build your faith in healing promises at all times. I like to say, “Take Scripture daily” just as you would take medicine or vitamins. Consider reading Scriptures on healing as part of your natural health regimen. Remember Proverbs 4:20-22 (KJV):
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
God’s promises in the Bible are not just peace to your mind, they impart health to all your flesh, which is your entire physical being.
3. Remember to pray in the Spirit during times when dis-comfort and anxiety try to arise. Praying in tongues is a strength that enables the Holy Spirit to make intercession on our behalf (Romans 8:26).
4. Always conduct spiritual warfare and take authority over the enemy. Command pain, sickness, and disease to leave in Jesus’ name! Command there to be peace!
5. Also, if there is some form of unbearable pain attempting to rob you of peace, it is absolutely fine to call out to God asking for His mercy, compassion, and help. This is the moment to once again think of all the times in Scripture when the Lord rescued people in their most dire and painful moments and helped them. Do this even if you are receiving natural medication to relieve pain. It’s important not to see natural pain relievers as the sole source of relief, but rather couple that with asking God to relieve your pain. Know that God does not want you in pain! Jesus came to bear our pains, which are both spiritual and physical. “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering…” (Isaiah 53:4 NIV).
6. Last, try to avoid resources that steal your peace. We will talk about dealing with what I call “peace thieves” in a later chapter, but it’s important not to fill your mind with information that only serves to steal peace, whether it’s about your health or something else.
As we close this chapter on knowing God’s promises of peace, I want to leave you with a Scripture on peace that to me puts the icing on the cake about the fact that God’s promise to you is one of peace!
“For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you (Isaiah 54:10 NKJV).
God gave this promise to Israel in a time when He rescued them from their many failures and afflictions. In turn, this promise also becomes ours as heirs of Christ Jesus in the middle of our own failings and trials. Settle today that God’s covenant of peace is promised to you. If you have felt discouraged and downtrodden in some way, arise and place your faith afresh in that peace for whatever situation you may be facing.
Take the simple steps toward His promises of peace that we have discussed and let Him fill your mind and soul with that supernatural assurance that can only come divinely from Him!
Stand in the storm and command God’s peace over your life.
When crisis hits and your mind won’t slow down, where do you turn? When anxiety grips your heart and fear feels louder than faith, how do you access the peace God promised? You love the Lord—but in the middle of trauma, grief, or uncertainty, do you struggle to actually experience His calm?
You’re not alone—and you’re not without answers. There is a way to move from panic to power, from turmoil to trust, and from chaos to commanded peace.
Through years of studying and teaching Scripture, Brenda Kunneman reveals that peace is not a passive feeling—it is a spiritual force that must be understood, received, and at times boldly commanded. In Commanding Peace!, you’ll discover how Jesus Himself modeled authority over chaos and how you, too, can enforce heaven’s peace in the middle of life’s fiercest storms. This breakthrough resource reveals the biblical foundation for ending inner conflict, silencing fear, and walking confidently in God’s promises—no matter what surrounds you.
As you journey through these pages, you’ll discover how to:
Command peace over anxiety, fear, and emotional turmoil.
Put on your spiritual armor to stand firm in times of crisis.
Anchor your trust in God’s promises when circumstances feel overwhelming.
Receive the Prince of Peace as your present help in every storm.
Shift from passive hoping to active faith that enforces God’s Word.
You don’t have to live at the mercy of the chaos around you. Jesus has already overcome the world—and that victory covers your mind and heart. The enemy’s intimidation cannot stand against a believer who declares, “Peace, be still!” Rise up, take your authority, and receive the divine rest that is yours.
