In disquieting thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men.
Job 4:13
Israel (Jacob), Job, Daniel, Zechariah, and Paul had something in common: they had night visions.
Not to be confused with dreams, night visions are “visions that occur during the time when one begins to rouse from sleep and the time one is fully awake; that period between sleep and wakefulness,” according to The Seer’s Dictionary.
Jacob had visions of the night (Genesis 46:2). Job had a vision of the night in Job 33:15. Daniel had night visions frequently (Daniel 2:19; Daniel 7:7,13). Isaiah had a night vision (Isaiah 29:7). And Paul had two night visions, or visions of the night (Acts 16:9; 18:9).
But not all night visions—or visions of the night as the Bible also calls them—originate with God. Like any other visual revelation, you have to navigate these spiritual experiences with discernment. Night visions can come from your soul or they can present as demonic interference.
Here’s my best advice: When you have a night vision, write it down immediately and judge the source later. If you don’t chronicle the night vision, you can forget important aspects of the encounter that help you judge the source. Sometimes the source is clearly demonic. The more difficult aspect of navigating night visions is discerning between your soul and His Spirit—or sometimes your troubled soul and a sneaky demon.
When you aren’t sure about the source of the night vision, your strategy shifts to prayer and waiting on the Lord before taking any action. He may show the enemy is meddling in your thoughts. If a night vision breeds fear in your heart, cast it down. If it brings confusion to your soul, bind it up. Plead the blood of Jesus against night visions that originate in the enemy’s camp. Never come into agreement with it through your thoughts or words. Instead, take authority over it, in the name of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit may show you what you thought was demonic is really the worries in your heart manifesting as a troubling vision. Or it could be Him warning you about something you need to avoid but you mistake it for the enemy. The source of your night visions is not always immediately clear, which is why it’s critical to interpret dreams by the Word of God and the Spirit of God, which will always lead you into truth.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, would You help me be careful not to attribute to You something that came from my soul? Teach me to discern between Your Spirit and my soul.
Entering Mystical Dimensions
He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.
Daniel 2:22
Jesus wants His disciples to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven. These realms are largely misunderstood, and error can creep in if we are not rooted in the Word and led by the Spirit. But the reality is the Word has plenty to say about this dimension.
The Bible calls us stewards of the mysteries of God (1 Corinthians 4:1). We can’t steward something we haven’t unlocked. Mysteries become revelation as God opens the eyes of our heart so we can see what we could not see before.
Proverbs 25:2 reveals: “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” And Deuteronomy 29:29 says, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Jeremiah 33:3 instructs us: “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
What are these mysteries? I write more about mysteries in my book The Seer Dimensions, but here are a few: There’s the mystery of the gospel (Ephesians 6:19); the mystery of Christ (Colossians 4:3); the mystery of iniquity (2 Thessalonians 2:7); the mystery of faith (1 Timothy 3:9); the mystery of godliness (1 Timothy 3:16); the mystery of the seven stars (Revelation 1:20).
There are many ways to access the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven. They are hidden in the Word. The Holy Spirit can share them with you by direct revelation. You can discover them through teachings from leaders in the Body of Christ and so on. But, as I write in my book Tongues of Fire, praying in tongues is one of the fastest ways to access these mysteries. Ask God to show you His mysteries.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, would You give me a hunger to search out secret truths and mysteries of Your Kingdom so I can understand Your ways. As I pray in tongues, would You unlock deep mysteries of Your glory?
What Do Those Numbers Mean?
The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Deuteronomy 29:29
Numerology, the study of numbers, can take you down a wrong interpretation path in a hurry. We must avoid the world’s—or the New Age concept—of numerology like the plague. But biblical numerology is, well, biblical.
It seems obvious to any serious Bible student that God is the God of numbers, though some still debate it. Numbers often have both a theological and symbolic meaning in Scripture and numbers we see in dreams could reveal what God is saying or planning to do in our lives or in the world. Of course, numbers can have more than one meaning in Scripture. There can be a positive or negative connotation.
God can and does still communicate through numbers. He’s been doing this since the beginning of the earth. For example, the number seven signifies perfection and completion. We see this in both the Genesis account of the seven days of creation and the Revelation 4:5 picture of the seven spirits of God.
Meanwhile, the number twelve consistently speaks of God’s government and authority. Consider the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles of the Lamb. The number forty speaks of trials and tests. Think of Israel’s forty years in the wilderness and Christ’s forty days in the desert. So when you see numbers in your dreams and visions, it means something. But don’t start searching Google for the meaning or you would wind up in a witch’s den. Instead, look to the Word of God to interpret the numbers, knowing that some numbers have a positive and negative connotation. That’s why context matters.
Remember, God created numbers and numbers are included in the language of Heaven. God may use a flashing number to get your attention, to bring clarity about a timeline or confirm what He has already said. God could use numbers to emphasize spiritual themes. In any case, the numbers you see in your dreams are purposeful. Don’t take them for granted; seek out the Word and the Spirit for revelation. One number could unravel the greater meaning of a dream or vision.
Seers, numbers are one way God communicates. God often uses numbers to confirm His Word or guide us in specific assignments. Study His Word, align your interpretations with Scripture, and allow the Holy Spirit to teach you. When you understand biblical numerology, you will unlock a powerful tool for interpreting the mysteries God reveals to you.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, would You help me to understand biblical numerology? There is so much to learn and I don’t want to miss what You are saying through numbers I see in my visual revelation.
Decoding Obscure Sights
I have told you these things in obscure figures of speech; a time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in obscure figures, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
John 16:25 New English Translation
John had some of the most obscure sights in Scripture. Consider the locusts from the abyss in Revelation 9:7-10:
The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months.
That’s obscure! Obscure means “difficult to see, understand or immediately interpret without further revelation,” according to The Seer’s Dictionary. Some visual revelation is easy to understand. For example, Joseph, the husband of Mary, had a dream with clear instructions to keep the baby Jesus safe from Herod’s murderous intentions. But we do see plenty of obscure sights recorded in the Bible.
Like Ezekiel, Daniel, and Zechariah, you may experience obscure sights in the seer dimensions. Know this: the message is hidden beneath the surface of the visual revelation. In other words, you need revelation to understand the revelation. This is not the time to grab a dream dictionary, which could lead you in the wrong direction. This is the time to grab hold of the Holy Spirit and press into what He is trying to show you.
Put another way, obscure sights are invitations for supplications. It’s a call to prayer for wisdom. When Daniel had an obscure vision of the four beasts coming up from the sea, all different from one another, he did not immediately understand the meaning of the obscure sight. He didn’t have an instant flash of revelation concerning the meaning of the four beasts. The vision troubled him.
Daniel needed supernatural help to understand what he saw. As it turns out, the four beasts were four kings. He probably would not have come to that conclusion on his own. We have to be careful not to come to our own conclusions when we see obscure sights or receive any form of visual revelation for that matter. Lean on the Revealer.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, help me not to dismiss obscure sights in the seer dimensions. Like Daniel, inspire me to ponder what I see and to seek Your mind for the deeper meanings of what You show me.
